IHWC Youth Hockey
2008-2009
The IHWC Youth Hockey program (ages 6-12) is a recreational program
open to boys and girls. The IHWC plays in the Cincinnati Amateur
Hockey Association (CAHA) house league. All practices are at the
IHWC and half of the games are home and half away at Cincinnati
area rinks.
Each age level has 5-6 teams which play 16 games against each
other. There are skill clinics offered every other week by the
league, one or more team practices every week, and a few additional
practices and non-league games. The CAHA season goes from September
through January. All skaters get equal playing time regardless
of ability. Ages are based on the skater’s age on December
31st of the current hockey season.
The developmental program is for new players with no experience,
under 8 years old. The goal is to develop skills so as to be able
to compete in the Mite level. The developmental program is independent
of the CAHA league but includes games later in the season. If
a child has little or no skating skills, then the Learn to Play
Hockey Instruction is a recommended pre-requisite.
What level your child plays is dependent on their age on 12/31/08
The Mite League is for skaters 8 and under who have basic
skating ability (finished Learn to Play Hockey or Developmental).
There is no checking allowed at this age.
The Squirt League is for skaters aged 9 or 10. There is no checking
at this age. Any child can play regardless of experience.
The PeeWee League is for skaters aged 11 or 12. Checking
begins at this age. Mandatory clinics are held to teach skaters
how to give a check and take a check safely. Any IHWC child can
play regardless of experience.
Ages 12 and over play with the Indian Hill JV or Varsity teams.
