ATTENTION: Register
Here for 2012 Spring Hockey.
Welcome to the 2011-2012 youth hockey program. Here
are some highlights about the upcoming season;
• Flat registration fees vs. last year and even
monthly billing of fees!
• USA Level one coaching clinic to be held at the
club on September 24th!
• USA ADM Clinic to be held at the club on September
27th!
• Supplemental/pro-instruction available as add-on
option TBD by each team/group
• Bulk/team discounts on equipment packages
• Consolidated uniform management program
• Concussion baseline testing will be offered at the
club (recommended for Bantam and above)
• Thanks again to the Feldkamp families for donating
ice bumpers for cross ice games!
• Thanks to Rick Riccetti for donating pucks (coaches
responsible once initial quantity issued)!
Register now! The first thing you
must do to ensure a spot is to register. There are two steps
to the process. The first and most important one is to register
with USA Hockey. Go to usahockeyregistration.com and follow
the steps for ice players and coaches. Without USA hockey
registration neither players nor coaches will be permitted
on the ice. When completed, USA will email you a confirmation
page. In order for you to become registered with the IHWC
program, you must forward that email confirmation of your
USA registration to; youthhockey@ihwinterclub.com
The second step is for you to fill out the IHWC
registration form and either fax or mail to or drop
off at the club. You’ll find our fees to be competitive
vs. other area programs which have no pre-season ice or
extra-ice flexibility and practice only once a week.
Developmental Program (2005 birth year and younger)
- Looking to introduce your child to the exciting game of
hockey? If so, this is the place to start. The program is
intended for young children who have completed the Learn
to Skate program (snowplow and/or basic 1 for older kids)
and are interested in learning the basics of the game in
a fun environment. The kids will continue to improve their
skating fundamentals while learning basic stick handling
and other hockey skills. They will also have the opportunity
to compete in mini-scrimmages against each other and other
Cincinnati area developmental programs. Please keep in mind
that full hockey equipment is required for this program

Mite (2003 and 2004 birth years)
– Mites will follow USA Hockey’s American Development
Model (ADM) this year. The idea is to introduce the game
in a simple and fun way (less emphasis on games and win/loss
stats and more emphasis on teaching and practicing technical
fundamentals) giving kids a better chance to learn to love
the game which will put them in a better position to excel
and reach their desired and/or potential level of competition.
Ice sessions will consist of both “station”
type practices and cross ice games. On September 27th USA
Hockey’s regional ADM director will conduct an on-ice

Coaching Certification –
For the first time this year, we have arranged for USA Hockey
to conduct coaching clinics at the club. We have secured
both ADM and Level one for this year, and will work toward
additional offerings in the future. All coaches must have
the appropriate level of certification in order to take
the ice with a team. The club will pick of the cost for
this training in appreciation for the coaches commitment
to this responsibility. All of our coaches are volunteers,
qualified and certified to provide the proper instruction
for our players.
Uniforms and Equipment
for Purchase - We are so excited to share with
you today the 2011 / 2012 IHWC Hockey Equipment Catalog
(Click
Here). We have worked closely with our new vendor -
Harrow Sports - and put together a variety of items that
you can order for your favorite youth or adult hockey players.
We know we are all focused on the season at hand, and that
the most important thing right now is to get you what you
need jerseys & socks. Those are located on Page 4 of
the catalog.
The first order deadline is OCTOBER 23. Please send your
completed order form to ihwcshophockey@gmail.com or to your
coach. We have provided a variety of ways for you to do
this. You can complete the Excel spreadsheet Order Form
( Click
here for the Order Form.xls), or print out page 10 of
the catalog, hand write your order form, and give it to
your coach. Orders will be placed together to get us all
the very best discounts possible. Orders returned to us
after the deadline will be held until the next club order
is to be placed. All orders will be charged to your credit
cards; we cannot bill equipment to your account at this
point. Please be sure to include your Team information on
the Order Form as this will allow us to get the equipment
to the right place.
There are a variety of IHWC Custom items in the catalog.
There is a minimum order number that must be met by the
IHWC members to make it possible to manufacture them. We
will let you know if we do not meet the minimum order. Please
consider these items as potential holiday gifts as delivery
will be in late December.
Coaches - you are the contact person for your team. Please
gather all order forms from your players/parents and return
them to us no later than October 23rd. Please make sure
your players in need of new jerseys and/or socks return
their order forms by the deadline. Again, orders returned
to us after the deadline will be held until the next club
order is to be placed.
For more information, please Colleen Eaton (colleen.eaton@gmail.com),
Stacey Udstuen (udstuen5@gmail.com)
or Kevin Lord (klord@ihwinterclub.com).

Supplemental Training – Extra-curricular
training will continue to be made available from Kevin and
Chris Lingenfelter (the club’s personal trainer).
Chris is now conducting off ice conditioning, meeting Mondays
and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:00 PM, open for all ages.
The focus of this program is agility, speed, flexibility
and plyometrics. Contact Chris at chrislingenfelter@yahoo.com
or call 675-6630 for more information. We will also be working
toward the services of former professionals for more specific,
hockey focused assistance if that is a fit for your player
or team. For details contact Tom Hilton (youthhockey@ihwinterclub.com)
Concussion baseline testing –
For the first time, we plan to offer ImPACT testing at the
club. Lynn Babcock of Children’s hospital is professionally
trained in this area and has graciously volunteered to help
spearhead this. The ImPACT test is the same one used by
the NHL and NFL. If you have a concussion, you are typically
suspended from play. Once you have recovered, you are cleared
to play again. Essentially, the baseline test allows for
a validation of the recovery, comparing recovery results
to the baseline. Anyone can slip and fall. Concussions shouldn’t
just be presumed to apply to the older ages or checking
ages. While USA Hockey has moved the checking age from Pee
Wee and above to Bantam and above, it is still good practice
for children of age 11 and up to do the baseline concussion
test. For more information, please visit http://impacttest.com/.
There will be a nominal fee for the test but, we’re
sure you will find it very reasonable and well worthwhile.
The idea would be to set up a battery of stations at the
club at specific times during the month of September to
conduct the testing. In order to move forward, please respond
to youthhockey@ihwinterclub.com
if you would intend to participate so we can get an idea
of the volume and plan accordingly. This would be a strictly
optional program. If you have concerns you should feel free
to contact your family doctor as well.
Attention Goalies! – If you
are a goalie interested in helping train others, especially
the young, up and coming within our ranks, please share
your interest with us at youthhockey@ihwinterclub.com.
We must concentrate on this very important position in order
to continue to field strong teams at all age levels. Everyone
loves the goalie….as long as there is one around to
love! Please help by arranging to donate a little of your
time to mentor one of your peers and help us strengthen
this area of opportunity. We would love to see our older,
more experienced goalies from varsity/jv/bantam, come together
and conduct clinics for our youth. Of course, adult goalies
are welcome too.
Volunteers needed! – As rosters
are formed, your head coaches will be asking for volunteers
to help out. This is very important and will really help
your teams. Help needed includes team manager, uniform coordinators,
schedulers, party coordinators, etc. Your coach may also
need help with assistant coaching so, if you are interested
and qualified, please let someone know.
Thank you very much for your interest and support in the
club’s youth hockey program.
For all other question or comments, please contact youthhockey@ihwinterclub.com
See you on the ice!
