Lisa Butler comes
to IHWC from Sport Plus Cincinnati bringing with her over a decade
of teaching experience and 20 years of skating experience. She has
competed in many competitions throughout her career. Upon leaving
her competitive career, Lisa was working on her intermediate level
freestyle test, and had just completed her silver dance tests, as
well as having passed her intermediate moves in the field. Lisa
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University
of Cincinnati with several honors. She is multi lingual being fluent
in three languages. She has several years of experience in Human
Resources and recruiting for well-known companies here in Cincinnati.
Lisa enjoys spending her free time with her husband and their two
girls, Natalie and Lydia. She believes that skating is a sport that
provides an individual with a strong foundation for tackling other
challenges in life. This philosophy greatly influences her teaching
style. She believes that paying attention to details and technique
are essential to developing superior skating skills. Lisa is available
Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.
Barbara Fisher
comes to the IHWC from The Skating Club of Taos in Taos, New Mexico
where she was the Program Director. Prior to living in New Mexico,
she was a Skating Director/Instructor at the Summit Skating Club
in Breckenridge, Colorado. Barbara has had many skaters pass Pre-Preliminary
through Intermediate USFS tests. She has passed the 4th Figure and
is working on completing the Pre-Silver Dance Test. Barbara has
experience teaching classes focusing on Moves in the Field, Edges,
Dance, Synchro, and Hockey. She has a PSA Ratings in Freestyle and
Moves in the Field, has been a skating professional for 16 years
and has had a 23 year career a Mental Health Therapist. Barbara
is available for Private lessons M-TH afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Julie Miller was previously an ice-skating
instructor for Sports Plus, where she taught a variety of ages as
well as skill levels. She began her skating career at the Northland
ice-skating rink and has competed at local competitions. She is
trained in Freestyle, Moves in the Field, and Ice Dancing. She has
passed up through the Pre-Silver level of dance. Julie is a member
of PSA and has passed the registered PSA exam. Julie has degrees
in Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters of
Education from Xavier University. For the past six years she has
been an elementary school teacher for a local public school system,
she is now changing careers to focus more on skating, dance, and
movement. In the near future she plans on becoming ACE fitness certified
in group fitness as well as certified in health and nutrition. Julie
has been a dancer all of her life and has been studying classical
ballet as well as other forms of dance for the last ten years at
the Otto M. Budig Academy as well as through CCM’s preparatory
department. She is very excited to share her knowledge of dancing
with IHWC through class offerings to members. Her perspective on
teaching is that it is never too late to learn something new. She
looks forward to helping her student’s achieve their goals.

Sheri Morse comes to the IHWC from The Skating Club of
Colorado in Denver, where she worked with many national and international
coaches under the direction of Gerry Lane, past president of PSA,
teaching Freestyle, Moves in the Field, and Dance, as well as stroking,
off-ice conditioning and movement classes. Many of Sheri’s
skaters have passed their Pre-Preliminary through Novice USFS tests
in both Moves in the Field and Freestyle. Sheri attained her Junior
Freestyle and 7th Figure tests and Silver Dances while enjoying
a competitive amateur career. She has her Basic Accreditation with
PSA and she is working toward her master ratings in the fields of
Freestyle, Moves in the Field, and Choreography. Sheri also works
with Learn to Skate Cincinnati teaching group and private lessons
and off-ice training. When she is not at the ice rink, she spends
her time happily being a mom to Madeline and Nathan. Sheri is available
for lessons Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Lisa Stoughton, IHWC Skating Director, began teaching
as an Intern to Vick Korn while working on her M.S. in Sport Behavior
and Performance at Miami University. As a Graduate Assistant, she
instructed PHS Classes in Ice Skating and First Aid/CPR while at
the same time serving as the Skating Director for the Oxford Skating
Club’s Group Lesson Program. In 1994, Lisa moved to Sports
Plus Cincinnati where she continued to teach Skate with US Basic
Skills Program, Intro to Synchronized Skating, Stroking classes,
off-ice conditioning classes, and private instruction in Dance,
Moves in the Field, Freestyle, Mental Performance and Beginner Hockey.
Lisa maintains the following ratings by the Professional Skater’s
Association: National Basic Accreditation, Power Skating Certification,
Certified Group, Registered Dance, and Master Rated in Sports Medicine
and Science. She is pursuing a PSA Program Director Rating. Lisa
has completed the Silver Dances and Intermediate FS. She has had
many skaters pass tests up to or through Pre-Silver Dances, Novice
Moves in the Field, and Intermediate FS. Lisa has special interests
in Optimal Performance Training including Mental Rehearsal, Goal
Setting, Visualization, Avoiding Burn-out, Retirement from Sport,
and Time Management concerns. With a background as a Fitness Specialist,
Lisa strongly believes in off-ice conditioning to assist with training
and injury prevention. Lisa is available M-TH afternoons and some
Saturday mornings.
Bethany Vondran comes to the IHWC with a wealth
of teaching and competitive experience. Under the guidance of Skating
Pro Donald Adair, Bethany and her ice dancing partner trained in
Novice Dance. She has also competed successfully in numerous Tri-State
and Regional competitions. In addition to on-ice training with world-class
skaters, she and here partner trained off-ice with two of Russia’s
premier ballet instructors. Bethany also served as the Captain of
the Bowling Green Horizonettes Synchronized Skating Team. In this
role, she led the team to a fourth place finish at Nationals. She
has attained the USFS Junior Freestyle, 7th Figure Test and will
complete her USFS Gold Dance Test with one more dance. An experienced
Skating Instructor fo Learn to Skate Cincinnati, Bethany has coached
many skaters participating in local Basic Skills Competitions. After
earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of
Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, she worked for
ten years as on e of Cincinnati’s top television advertising
sales professionals. Now a stay-at-home Mom to Chase and Sasha,
she looks forward to helping IHWC skaters succeed in local competitions.
Bethany is available Monday and Thursday afternoons as well as Saturday
mornings.
Debi Wyatt comes to the IHWC from the RDV Sportsplex
Ice Den in Orlando, FL, where she taught many skaters through all
USFS levels, from the Pre-Preliminary to the Senior Freeskating
and Senior Moves in the Field tests, as well as the USFS Pre-Gold
Dance tests. She has taught figure skating for over 25 years in
Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio. Her students have competed in Juvenile,
Intermediate and Novice Regional USFS competitions as well as many
state and local events. She has a degree from the University of
Pittsburgh in English Literature and Studio Arts, and she taught
the Physical Education Ice Skating Courses for the University of
Pittsburgh and the Beaver County Community College in Pennsylvania.
The USFS Tests she has passed include the 6th Figure , Junior Freeskating,
Pre-Gold Dance Test and Silver Free Dance. She is a Silver Level
Ice Skating Institute Judge and has passed the Registered Freeskating
and Registered Moves in the Field PSA Ratings Exams as well as the
Senior Sports Medicine Exam. Her philosophy of teaching stresses
perfection of the basics which leads to the development of high
quality skaters and builds a strong foundation upon which to learn
the more advanced skills of Figure Skating. Debi is available Wednesday,
Thursday and Sunday afternoons.
