| Private Skating Instruction
FAQs Who can take lessons?
Anyone interested in furthering his/her skating skills can contract
a Skating Professional for a Private Lesson. Lessons are offered
to skaters desiring to compete or perform in an exhibition. Other
skaters take Private Lessons as boosters to successfully complete
a session of Learn to Skate. Skaters requiring special attention
may prefer to take a Private Lesson and learn at their own pace.
Hockey players and Figure Skaters take Private Lessons to hone in
on particular drills/skills. Some individuals prefer a more intimate
setting where
their personal needs can be addressed one-on-one.
When can I take a Private Lesson?
Private Lessons are typically taught on Freestyle Sessions (FS).
These sessions appear on the ice schedule at varied times and the
ice schedule is updated weekly and posted under schedules on the
Winter Club website. Lessons can also be provided on some Open Family
Skates. Certain jumps, spins, advanced moves and patterns create
safety concerns. Due to these concerns, Private Lessons will not
be offered on Friday or Saturday evenings.
| How much does
a Private Lesson cost? A ½ hour lesson can range
from $22-$38.60. Rates vary according to the Skating Pro’s
experience, personal skating level, and the level of tests students
have passed.

Who
teaches the Private Lessons? All
of the IHWC Skating Professionals are members of the Professional
Skater’s Association (PSA). The PSA is the organization for
teaching and performing professionals, which provides and promotes
the education and certification of Figure Skating Coaches. U.S.
Figure Skating recognizes the PSA as the official coaches education,
certification, and training program. Some of our Coaches are currently
rated by the PSA (refer to Coaches Bios for more information). Some
of our Coaches are currently pursuing ratings by the PSA. All of
our Coaches are also members of U.S. Figure Skating and the Basic
Skills Program developed by U.S. Figure Skating.
How long is a Private Lesson? Private
Lessons are typically taught in ½ hour increments. ¼
hour lessons scheduled twice as frequently work best for very young
skaters and beginner skaters. Figure Skaters working on choreography
or Hockey Players working on stick and puck drills may desire a
longer lesson. Consult with your Skating Pro for your particular
needs.
Can I take Private Lessons on an Open Family
Skate? Certain jumps, spins, advanced moves
and patterns create safety concerns. Due to these concerns, Private
Lessons will not be offered on Friday or Saturday Open Family Skates.
